Firecracker Bundt Cake
Need an easy to make recipe for your 4th of July celebration? This cake will do it for ya!
I found this recipe on Love Bakes Good Cakes and wanted to give it a shot. Normally I don't use box mixes but I had little time to make this cake for a bake sale the next morning!
For this recipe you just need a few simple on-hand ingredients, red and blue food dye, and festive sprinkles! Can't go wrong with any of that!
Firecracker Bundt Cake
Ingredients:
1 box white cake mix
Eggs, oil, and water as listed on the cake mix box
1 can white/vanilla frosting
Red food gel
Royal blue food gel
Optional - pink food gel and sky blue food gel
Red, white, and blue sprinkles
Directions:
To make the cake -
1. Preheat oven to the temperature that is listed on the cake mix box. Grease and flour and bundt pan and set aside.
2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix together your ingredients as directed on the cake mix box.
3. Split your batter evenly into 3 separate bowls. Leave one of them white, as we are going to need red, white, and blue batter! In one bowl, dye the batter to your desired shade of red. I made mine brighter by using less red dye and adding two drops of pink dye. In the third bowl, dye the batter to your desired shade of blue. I also made the blue brighter by using less royal blue and adding a few drops of sky blue. (This is totally optional, I just happen to own a ton of food dye!)
4. In your prepared bundt pan, first pour the red batter into the bottom of the bundt pan. Tap the pan lightly on the counter to get it to spread evenly. The next color is white, pouring it evenly around your bundt pan on top of the red. You do not need to swirl the cake batter! Just let it spread naturally. Lastly, pour the blue cake batter on top as evenly as possible. Gently tap the pan on the counter to get rid of air bubbles and to get the batter to spread evenly.
5. Bake the cake as directed on your cake mix box. (Around 40-45 minutes). Once it's done, let it cool completely before icing.
To ice the cake -
1. Split your can of frosting into three small bowls. Microwave them for about 15 seconds until your frosting is soft and can easily drizzle on your cake. (If you don't have a microwave, you can melt your frosting in a double boiler in about 3 minutes!)
2. Keep one bowl of the frosting white, and dye the other two bowls red and blue. Use the same shades of red and blue that you used to make the batter.
3. Using a spoon (or a ziplock bag with the corner cut off) drizzle the different colored frosting over the cake. I did them in order of red, white, and blue. On your last colored frosting, sprinkle your festive sprinkles on top.
Keep in an airtight container and it can be stored up to 4 days. Enjoy!
