Headache/Migraine Status Update #3
You can find my first post about this adventure here. The second post you can find here.
Welcome back to another round of "What is wrong with Kelli?"
Today's episode is all about trying new foods!
After about 4 solid weeks of the anti-elimination diet, I've been trying new foods to put back into this diet to see how I react to them.
A couple of weeks ago I had a horrible reaction to soy sauce (it was in a marinade I did not know was on the food I ordered out), which gave me a headache almost immediately after consuming. Last week I was eating what I thought was a good, healthy meal and found out that I need to steer WAY clear of garlic. (Click here to read more about garlic causing headaches, it's pretty interesting!) Then on the fourth of July, I ate a small scoop of ice cream and some cheese. Well... I was sick for the next 36 hours. I had horrible stomach cramps, I felt nauseous all day on the 5th, and I couldn't stomach any food until late the next day. I, of course, wanted to diagnose myself, so I looked up symptoms of lactose intolerance. I may or may not be lactose intolerant, but there is no way in hell I want to find out again. That was absolutely miserable.
So the next few foods I may end up trying is beans/legumes, peanut butter, and gluten. Beans I'm not too sure if I'll have a negative reaction to them, but I have steered way clear of those. Peanut butter I have avoided as well, but I can eat cashew butter and cashew milk. HOWEVER, peanuts are technically a legume (just like beans), and cashews are technically a tree nut. As for gluten, I've steered mostly clear of that. I'm sure I may have had some gluten at some point in the last couple of weeks, but I haven't kept track of it.
Overall, I have felt much better. Fewer headaches, much less fatigue, less bloating. I've noticed when I stick to a very strict paleo-style diet, I feel better, but I can still enjoy foods like cashew milk ice cream, rice, chips and guac, and I have found some great snacks as well! Eating out is still difficult, but I have found the places I can enjoy without consequences, so I'm happy about that. I think I'm going to start working on some posts about what I can eat at restaurants, what snacks I like, and easy meals to eat at home.
